Dr. Ashburn was appointed Dean of Humanities in 2009 after serving as Chair of the Literature and Language Department for five years. She began teaching at UNC Asheville in fall of 1987 and has taught a range of courses including first-year composition, Southern and Appalachian literature, History of the Language and Introduction to Linguistics, Arts 310, and senior-level literature seminars, most recently on William Faulkner. Her current research interests included Southern and Appalachian literature, women and work, and remarkable women of Asheville.
